Citizens Advice Bureau Craven

The Citizens Advice Bureau offers free confidential debt counselling service. They can advise on different types of debt such as rent and mortgage arrears, credit card debts and bank loans.

Advice can be given face to face or by telephone and email. Home visits can be arranged from either the main bureau in Skipton or outreach locations at :

  • Settle
  • Bentham
  • Ingleton 

The bureau offers a debt management service as well as assistance with bankruptcy forms.

Bentham - Bentham Medical Practice on Wednesdays 1.00 p.m. - 3.00 p.m.

Ingleton - Ingleton Community Centre on the last Wednesday in the month 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m.

The UK insolvency helpline debt advice service

The UK Insolvency Helpline is a free telephone advice service for people with debt problems. The service also operates teams of outreach workers covering North Yorkshire and Nationally throughout the UK.

The service is free, confidential and independent. The service has existed since 1986 and was set up in conjunction with the credit industry. The service provides self-help advice to its callers and also produces written self-help packs and fact sheets to back this up. The service can also assist callers with the setting up of Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVA) Debt Management Plans, Bankruptcy & Debt Relief Orders.

North Yorkshire Credit Union

The Credit Union provides straightforward savings and loans products for people living and working in North Yorkshire and York.

The North Yorkshire Credit Union has been created by extending the coverage of York Credit Union to the rest of the county. Geographically it is one of the largest credit unions in the UK.

Authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority, savings are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Members can save up to £10,000. Loans range from 6.2% APR to 26.8% APR.
