  • Public notice of variation of taxi license fees - November 2015

    Notice is given in accordance with Section 70 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 that the Council has determined that the fees in respect of the renewal of private hire and hackney carriage licences be varied as follows.

  • Hackney Carriage Drivers Licence

    We are responsible for licensing taxis and private hire vehicles, including their drivers and operators. The main aim is to ensure the safety of the public, by ensuring that the drivers, vehicles and operators that they use are safe, reliable and efficient. A licence is required before any person can drive a licensed hackney carriage or private hire vehicle.

  • Hackney Carriage Vehicle - Taxi Licence

    This particular licence is required for any vehicle that will ply for hire, be flagged down or hired at a taxi rank. A 'Hackney Carriage' is more commonly called a Taxi. We issue licences for taxis and ensure that the vehicles are suitable and adequately insured to ensure high standards of safety. These vehicles have a roof sign and display a white plate on the rear of the vehicle.

    The Council is responsible for setting the level of Hackney Carriage (taxi) fares for licensed taxis in the Craven District area.

  • Private Hire Vehicle - Minicab Licence

    Private Hire Vehicles cannot ply for hire in the street or at taxi ranks. Journeys must be pre-booked, normally by phone or in person at a cab office. We are responsible for licensing taxis and private hire vehicles, including their drivers and operators. The main aim is to ensure the safety of the public, by ensuring that the drivers, vehicles and operators that they use are safe, reliable and efficient.

  • Private Hire Drivers Licence

A private hire vehicle may not be hailed in the street and must be pre-booked. A licence is required before any person can drive a private hire vehicle.

  • Private Hire Operators Licence

    A private hire operator's licence is required to enable a person to accept or invite bookings for private hire vehicles. One person can be licensed and employ/sub-contract an unlimited number of licensed vehicles.
