Viewing and commenting on a planning application

The details of all planning applications that have been received by the Council since 2000 can be viewed on the Council's Online Planning Database. Since 2008 the plans and other information forming the application can also be downloaded. Anyone is able to view and comment on a planning application.

Please note that from the 1st June 2017, the system used to access planning applications will change.  You will not need to do anything as the website will be automatically updated.

From 5pm on 18th May 2017 there was a system freeze to allow the data to transfer. Any comments received after then will be acknowledged and passed on to the case officer. These comments will not show online until after 1st June 2017. If you are wanting to view any consultation responses or interested parties comments received between the freeze period please visit the Council Offices at 1 Belle Vue Square, Broughton Road, Skipton, BD23 1FJ.

Viewing planning applications

Search the Council's Planning Application Database  for both current and decided planning applications.  The plans, application form, and other supporting information that forms the application are available to view. Track the progress of an application: for applications received after April 2012 it is possible to view copies of responses made by Statutory Consultees, members of the public, Parish/Town Councils, and other interested parties.  For determined applications there is a summary of the decision that has been taken.

If you do not have internet access you can view  planning applications on a computer at the Council Offices reception in Belle Vue Square, Skipton.  Alternatively, Settle Library has copies of current planning application available for inspection.

Historic applications that are not available to view online can be inspected at the Council Offices reception in Belle Vue Square, Skipton.  Please be aware that at least 48 hours notice is required as files may have to be retrieved from off-site storage.   To arrange this please email us at stating the application number and when you would like to view it.

Planning Committee agendas, reports & minutes of meetings

The most contentious applications are generally determined by the Council's Planning Committee. On the Planning Committee web pages you can find the following information:

  • Agendas for both future and past meetings, including officer reports and recommendations on planning applications. Agendas are published 5 working days before the date of the meeting,
  • Minutes of previous meetings,
  • A Calendar of Council Meetings,
  • A list of Planning Committee Members
  • The Planning Scheme of Delegation (see Planning Committee web pages) which explains in detail when an application will be referred to Planning Committee for a decision rather than determined by the Council's Planning Officers.
