Household waste - information and advice

We provide an alternate weekly collection service to all residents in Craven.

Every household is provided with a:

  • Green bin (or lilac sacks) for general refuse (non-recycling)
  • Blue bin (or recycling pod) for glass, cans, plastic bottles, cartons, paper and cardboard
  • Brown bin for garden waste (issued to approx 15,000 properties)

For further details on what can be placed in each bin, please see Recycling - bags and containers page

How to find your collection dates

We have a search facility that enables residents to view their collection details online. To find your collection details, please go to When will my bins be emptied page. You can also request a refuse and recycling calendar by contacting Customer Services on 01756 700600.

Placing your refuse out for collection

All bins should be placed out at the kerbside or the designated collection point by 6.30am on the day of collection. Communal waste and recycling containers do not need to be placed on the kerbside as they will be emptied and returned to the storage area.

Missed collections

In the unlikely event that we have missed your household waste collection, please complete our Report a missed bin collection form or contact Customer Services on 01756 700600 to arrange for us to return.

Contamination tags

If you have had a contamination tag placed on your bin and it has not been emptied then this indicates that the collectors have identified something inside your bin that is not on the list of acceptable items. You must identify and remove the unacceptable item(s) and put your bin out for collection on your next scheduled collection day when it will be collected as normal.

Assisted Collection Service

If you are unable to move your waste and recycling bins to the kerbside for collection due to a disability or medical condition or if you are aged 80 years and over you may be eligible for our Assisted Collection Scheme.  For further information please refer to our Assisted refuse collection page.

Requesting new/replacement bins
