Town Twinning

Town Twinning was developed mainly after the Second World War to promote mutual understanding and friendship.


Skipton is twinned with the Bavarian town of Simbach.
Simbach Am Inn Website
 (English: Simbach on the Inn) is a town in the Rottal-Inn district of Bavaria, Germany.
Simbach was one of the first places where electricity was used. Forty MW of electricity is generated from geothermal heat sources tapped 2,000 meters beneath the earth.

In May 2009 Skipton Town Council decided to proceed with twinning with Erquinghem-lys Website in France.
Erquinghem is one of a series of villages on the river Lys established by the Viking Rikiwulf in 880 AD at the time of the invasion led by Godfrid, Duke of Frisia.

Banyuls-sur-Mer
Settle is twinned with Banyuls Sur Mer Website in France. Banyuls-sur-Mer Stands at the foothills of the Pyrenees on the coast of the Mediterranean sea. The region is known for its wines.
