Your Money, Your Say! - 2017/18 Budget Consultation

How do you think the council should spend your money?

This consultation closed on Monday November 7, 2016.

The council has begun the process of setting its revenue budget for the 2017/18 financial year. We asked if you think the council spends your money in the best way or if you think we could spend it better.

The challenge

In 2016/17 the Council has received £698,000 in Revenue Support Grant from Central Government. By 2019/20 this will be reduced to £0.

Due to this and other cost pressures such as rising prices and increases in demand for services we will need to save a further £1.029 million from our revenue budget by 2019/20. At least £626,000 of this will need to be saved in 2017/18.

Despite the cuts we still aim to provide top quality services for the people of Craven.

Remember - not all of the council tax you pay goes to this council

In 2016/17 Craven District Council will keep just £157.21 (£3.02 per week) of the £1,641.61 paid in Council Tax by a Craven household to fund the services it provides (based on an average Band D property Council Tax 16/17). The rest will go to North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Parish/Town Councils.

That's why it's so important that you tell us how we should spend your money and how you think we should make the savings we need.

This consultation closed on Monday November 7, 2016. The 2017/18 budget will be approved by Full Council in February 2017.
