Skipton High Street car park to reduce number of cash taking machines to deter thieves
Following continuous vandalism to all pay and display machines in Skipton High Street car park, Craven District Council is reducing the number of machines that can accept cash.
This will leave four machines that will accept both cash and card payments while two will be card payment only. Where there are two pay and display machines side by side, one will be card only and one will be cash and card.
Currently only one machine is accepting cash due to the vandalism but it is hoped they will all be repaired within the next few weeks.
There are instructions attached to the machines which set out how to pay by card.
Measures are being taken to step up security and ensure no cash is being left overnight in all council car parks and the council is working closely with the police to identify the perpetrators.
Police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the car park on the weekend of January 28, 2017, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 12170016896.
