Skipton Town Hall celebrates World Lindy-Hop Day
Skipton Town Hall is joining forces with the Swing Cats to celebrate World Lindy-Hop Day on May 26.
A day filled with fun and energetic vintage dance from the 1930s and 40s is promised, with lots of free taster classes, demonstrations and social dance time in the day around Skipton.
This will be followed by a ticketed big night out at Skipton Town Hall in the evening, when popular local swing DJs Jitterbug James & Tacky Annie will keep the swing time favourites coming playing a mixture of swing jazz, big band, jump blues, rat pack, to boogie woogie and RnB.
Danielle Daglan, Programming and Venue Development Manager at Craven District Council, said: “Lindy-Hop has become more and more popular in the last few years and we’re delighted to be taking part in this event with the Swing Cats.
“If you’ve never tried Lindy-Hop before, come along and give it a go – and if you’re already a fan, show us your moves!”
Lindy-Hop has seen many revivals over the years but it is now bigger than ever, thanks to the legend Frankie Manning, an American dancer, instructor, and choreographer.
He died in 2009 and World Lindy-Hop Day is held in his memory, on his birthday each year.
The evening event begins at 7pm with a beginners and improvers class for anyone who couldn’t make the daytime sessions or wants to learn more. Then there will be a social dance from 7.45pm onwards, including demonstrations from the Swing Cats.
Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for students/U21s, and are available online at www.cravendc.gov.uk/skipton-town-hall or call the Box office: 01756 792809.
