- Former Craven District Council chairman donates over £1,000 to Skipton Air Cadets
Former Craven District Council chairman donates over £1,000 to Skipton Air Cadets
Councillor Stephen Place, Craven District Council chairman in 2017-18, has handed over a cheque for £1,129.15 to the 264 (Skipton) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
The money was raised during Councillor Place’s year in office, through schemes including the Chairman’s Charity Swim.
Councillor Place said: “The Air Cadets are a focal point in the heritage and tradition of Craven. They are the representatives of Craven District at major functions, official ceremonies and formal parades.
“They always turn out, rain, wind or shine and they are always enthusiastic. This is my way, and Craven District Council’s way, of saying thank you for what they do and recognising their service.”
Fl. Lt. Simon Coates accepted the cheque on behalf of the 264 Squadron and said: “This is totally unexpected and very generous. This money will go towards those air cadets who want to go on courses to go further in the RAF – many of our cadets go on to high ranks within the Armed Forces.”
The Royal Air Force Air Cadets is a national voluntary youth organisation designed to develop the qualities of young people. It is sponsored by the Royal Air Force and provides challenging aviation, adventurous and community activities. For more information on the local organisation, go to www.skiptonaircadets.co.uk
